The Haines Borough Assembly recently voted to retain Washington, D.C.-based Holland and Hart LLP for federal lobbying services. This is alarming because Holland and Hart is known for supporting large-scale extractive industries, such as mining. Their proposal focuses explicitly on promoting infrastructure and access for resource development in Haines, while altogether omitting support for vital existing economic sectors such as commercial fishing and the visitor industry.
